Google and YouTube remain separate

Google says its YouTube viral video-sharing site, acquired last year for $1.65 billion in stock, will remain an independent subsidiary of Google and continue to operate separately.

Most of the user-generated and premium, licensed content from the likes of CBS for example, will be hosted on YouTube, the company says. YouTube, meanwhile, will benefit from future Google Video innovations, including video search, monetization and distribution. (more…)

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

A Brazilian judge reversed course Tuesday and lifted an order that led to a ban of YouTube across much of the country because a sexy video of supermodel Daniela Cicarelli and her boyfriend kept circulating against the boyfriend’s wishes.

Sao Paulo state Supreme Court Justice Enio Santarelli Zuliani asked telecommunications companies and Internet providers across Latin America’s largest nation to stop blocking the popular video-sharing site immediately. He also wanted to know why the companies can’t simply prevent the video from being seen without pulling the plug on the entire site. (more…)

The use of the proposed “.xxx” domain name would remain voluntary, but any porn sites that choose to use it instead of the more popular “.com” would be subject to the new terms issued late Friday by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. (more…)

Boy Finds Porn in Madden Case

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

Apparently, one in every 5 million copies comes with adult entertainment.

This has to be a first: a 14-year old boy in Utah is claiming his factory-sealed copy of Madden 07 for the Xbox 360 displayed hardcore porn when he popped the disc into his system. The boy, Kolton Mahoney, immediately notified his parents, who are backing up his claim.

IGN contacted an Electronic Arts representative said the company is working with Circuit City, where the game was purchased, to resolve the issue. EA has not seen the disc in question and was unable to verify whether or not the claim is valid. The representative did say that EA “regrets any embarrassment this matter has caused the family,” and pointed out over 5 million copies have been sold without any similar complaints. (more…)

A Brazilian judge has ordered YouTube to find a way to stop Brazilians from viewing steamy footage of supermodel Daniela Cicarelli and her boyfriend on the highly trafficked video-sharing site, court officials said Thursday.

YouTube was first ordered in September to remove video showing Cicarelli and Brazilian banker Renato Malzoni in intimate scenes along a beach near the Spanish city of Cadiz.

But the clip still appears periodically on YouTube, prompting the expanded order from Sao Paulo state Supreme Court Justice Enio Santarelli Zuliani on Tuesday, the court’s press office said in a statement.

Two Brazilian sites that ran the video of Cicarelli and Malzoni complied with the original order, the statement said. (more…)
